Czech Senate Elections This Weekend

This weekend (12-13 October) some Czechs are going to decide to whom they will give their vote. It is the gubernatorial and Senate elections which can decide the direction of political affairs this year.

The Czech Senate is the Parliament´s upper house. There are 81 members who represent all of the 81 electoral districts in the Czech Republic. The Senator serves for a 6 year term of office with elections every two years for one third of the House.

The first round is going to take place on the 12 and 13 October. If one of candidates gets more than 50% of the votes, he or she wins automatically. If not, the second round will take place next weekend (19 and 20 October). The two best candidates from the first round are nominated to the second round. The one with more votes wins the election for his/her district.
