It is that time of the year when people take to the mountains while underestimating the dangers, as one 41-year old Czech tourist found out yesterday after he was buried in an avalanche in Slovakia.

According to news portal, the mountain rescue service says the man probably set off the avalanche, which dragged him down the mountainside near Chopok in the Nizke Tatry (Low Tatras). In a search and rescue mission, the mountain rescue service eventually found him alive and well.

Head of the Mountain rescue service Jozef Janiga expressed relief that they didn’t see a repeat of the 1979 accident in Mlynica, when 7 rescuers were killed in a helicopter crash trying to save a tourist with just mild injuries.
