Fire Affects Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava
Just a few hours after the ceremonial gala opening of the 15th International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava, fire fighters were called to put out a fire that had spread near one of the projection buildings.
The fire consumed a tent prepared for the traditional accompanying programme to the festival on Wednesday around midday. According to regional fire brigade spokeswoman Petra Musilová, nobody was hurt in the fire. The firemen had to battle with the blaze for half an hour. The fire seemingly started from the halogen lighting in the party tent and than spread to a nearby caravan and truck. The damages have been estimated at around CZK 500,000.
The accompanying programme will remain without major changes, though, as the festival crew is looking quickly for a suitable new venue, says festival spokeswoman Soňa Mikulová.
The International Documentary Film Festival launched its 15th year on Tuesday and is described as the biggest documentary film show in Central and Western Europe, growing every year. In 2010, the IDFF screened more than 260 movies and welcomed over 2,600 viewers.
