Tesco gets green light to buy Zabka and Koruna oulets

The Czech anti-trust office UOHS gave the thumbs up today to the bid of Tesco to acquire around 130 retail outlets of the Czech convenience stores Zabka and Koruna from Penta Investments.

Tesco made its bid in December 2010, offering around CZK 1 billion, and now has clearance to finalise the transaction.

The anti-trust office does not see the latest acquisition as boosting Tesco’s position on the market, even though the British retail giant is slowing taking over. The office feels that there is still sufficient competition on this segment of the market, quoting the chains of Ahold, Schwarz and Rewe as examples.
