THE VIBRANT NINE – TRAVEL THE WORLD IN ONE DAY

 

Also this summer you can discover few corners of the world. All you need to do to travel far-away countries is to get on a tram direction to Podviní Park, where all the tastes, flavours, colours and rhythms from many foreign countries await.

The 8th annual multicultural festival The Vibrant Nine will take place on Saturday 25 August starting at 2 PM in Podviní Park in Prague 9. The Vibrant Nine is an opportunity for people of many nationalities living in Prague and the whole of the Czech Republic to meet up and share the specifics of a foreign culture, taste exotic cuisines and personally enjoy the atmosphere of a culture of many continents, dancers and musicians from nearby and far-away countries; you can taste foreign delicatessen and purchase produce you cannot get anywhere else. For children there will be many workshops and competitions including a whole-day competition „Around the world in one hour“. Entry is free.

FESTIVAL PROGRAM – MAIN STAGE

On stage set up in the middle of Podviní Park exotic countries will perform their riches. You will see a lion´s dance, Shao-lin and Tai-ji from China, traditional singing and dancing from African countries, Russia, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Ireland, Moldova or Pakistan. An interesting part of the program is a traditional overtone singing of Mongolian interprets and local music and dancing; Bollywood, oriental or lady Latin dance, Columbian zumba or musical Russian poetry from 18th century.

MUSIC STARS

This year´s stars of the main program are two bands. A Cuban seven member band SON CALIENTE will perform their wild rhythms in a style of samba, rumba, bosa nova, cha-cha and mambo. It is no accident that the frontman is nicknamed James Brown from Cuba; the music will definitely get you dancing. A festival entertainment will peak with a performance of ALVIK, a cosmopolitan electro-jazz formation mixing jazz, hip hop, drum´n´bass and delicate singing form and make their music an adventure.

ETHNO MARKET and WORKSHOPS FOR EVERYONE

The Vibrant Nine brings treasures from all around the world which you can buy or even learn to make traditional goods yourself. For example there will be drums from Angola or African fair-trade produce, hand woven dolls and carpets from Afghanistan; on display there will be photograph exhibition of children in Kenya and Guiney or you can learn martial arts with a Chinese school, observe Japanese calligraphy, books, kimonos or try origami; in a depron workshop or one from Tibet you can print your personal T-shirt. You will be able to observe work of embassies and cultural institutes of Bulgaria, South African Republic, Russia and Japan, non-governmental organisation dealing with issues of migration, integration and development.

TASTES AND SMELLS OF THE WORLD

How do the exotic taste like? At the festival you can enjoy home cuisine of many countries such as Angola, Armenia, Afghanistan, China, Georgia, Pakistan, Russia, Mexico and Vietnam. You can drink and buy vine from Bulgaria or Moldova or have a cup of tea in an improvised tea room on the meadow and a fair-trade coffee from various corners of the world.

AROUND THE WORLD IN ONE HOUR

Also this year we are preparing a whole day competition for children called „Around the world in one hour”. Children virtually go around the world and learn something new about foreign cultures, regions and traditions and moreover win beautiful presents.
